The Waterford High School Lady Lancers Girls Tennis Team competes in the Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC), which consists of 15 teams in three divisions (based on enrollment).

Waterford’s regular season schedule consists of two matches against each team in our division, matches against other ECC teams, as well as occasional matches against non-ECC teams.  Varsity matches consist of four singles and three doubles matches.  All varsity matches are best of three sets.  The winning team needs to win at least four matches.  Following varsity matches, JVs compete in single-set doubles matches.

Following the ECC regular season is the ECC singles and doubles tournament, for the best singles players and doubles teams in the conference.  Following the ECC tournament is the state team tournament and the state individual singles and doubles tournament.

Waterford girls tennis has consistently been one of the more competitive teams in the ECC.  The team was the ECC medium division champion from 2004 through 2009.  The team has consistently qualified and competed in the state team tournament.  The team’s best run in the state tournament was in 2004, reaching the Class M semi-finals.  Individual accomplishments include Jessica Glynn and Leigh Foster winning the ECC doubles tournament in 2004.  In 2005, sophomore Angela Yue qualified for All-State based on her results at the state individual singles tournament.  In 2009, Christine Nykyforchyn and Rachel Kriet won the ECC doubles tournament.

In addition to competing, the team has visited the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI and the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens, NY.
